  15. <p>     DIED. JEAN NEGULESCO, 93, film director; in Marbella, Spain.
  16. Originally a painter, Negulesco broke into film in the '40s
  17. with such dark Warner Bros. melodramas as Humoresque (1947),
  18. starring Joan Crawford and John Garfield, and Johnny Belinda
  19. (1948), a frank tale of disability, rape and revenge that earned
  20. a dozen Oscar nominations, including one for Best Director.
  21. But while this early work is Negulesco's most accomplished,
  22. the Romanian-born auteur achieved his greatest fame directing
  23. some of the frothiest films of the '50s for 20th Century Fox,
  24. including How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) and Three Coins
  25. in a Fountain (1954).
